Commitment
Commitment in football it means you will be at all the practices and all the games. Not just show up at the games but also when you get there, perform in an excellent way. To achieve the superior performance it means you will spend time studying the plays and be able to execute them with precision. It means playing when you are sick or hurt. Commitment involves dedication to coach and all the members of the team. You must work and function together as a team in order to win.
Commitment in sports is measured in hours practiced and in games won. It is usually endless effort and work in a lonely place until one day someone mentions your commitment to the game.
In business commitment means you come early and stay late. You make sure everything is done to the last detail. The checks are signed, the orders are placed and everything is done right. It means you work when you are sick and sometimes when you really need a vacation.
Commitment means you will be responsible for the satisfaction of the customer. No matter what the problem is you find a solution that is best for the customer. Commitment means you are involved with the other people with which you work or play. You develop relationships and earn trust in order to accomplish a goal.
What is commitment to Jesus and his body the church? Is it sitting on a bench once a week for an hour and not falling asleep? Why is it we have a greater understanding and demand for commitment in business and sports? We applaud those who do well and give them trophies and rings. What if we studied our playbook to be able to perform in an excellent way? What if we continued to work when we were sick? What if we practiced hours and hours to be able to reach others for Christ? Maybe we should look at the examples in the Bible of what it means to be committed:
32 And what more shall I say? For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection; and others were tortured, not accepting their release, in order that they might obtain a better resurrection; 36 and others experienced mockings and scourgings, yes, also chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were tempted, they were put to death with the sword; they went about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated 38(men of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts and mountains and caves and holes in the ground. 39 And all these, having gained approval through their faith, did not receive what was promised, 40 because God had provided something better for us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.
